- How do you tell a real manufacturer from a trading company?
- Count sewing lines and ask the operator headcount, then ask who knits or weaves the fabric. Most garment suppliers are cut-make-trim shops buying fabric outside, which is workable but changes who controls your quality.
- What certification is needed to import sportswear & activewear into the EU or US?
- The EU restricts azo dyes, nickel release and other substances under REACH. The US requires FTC fibre-content and care labelling and applies flammability rules under 16 CFR 1610, with a much stricter standard for children’s sleepwear.
- What order minimums and tooling costs should I expect?
- Usually 300–1,000 pieces per style per colour, and it is the fabric dye lot — commonly 500–1,000 metres — that sets the floor, not the sewing.
- What goes wrong most often in this category?
- Fabric substitution, shrinkage and poor colour fastness after washing. Approve a bulk fabric swatch from the actual dye lot; approving only the sample garment leaves the fabric unspecified.
